The novel is set in the Congo in pre-colonial times and tells of the fratricidal conflict between two tribes, the Tsembo and the Tsoundi. The son and daughter of the chiefs of these two tribes marry, which guarantees their alliance and peace. But the daughter of the Tsoundi chief, Hakoula, sleeps with a slave, which leads to an outbreak of violence. Hakoula's son eventually restores peace and frees all the slaves. But in the meantime, the affair becomes the catalyst for profound changes in society.
Adapted from the novel La Légende de Mfoumou Ma Mazono by Jean Malonga. It is the first feature film produced in the Republic of Congo after independence.
