EDITORIAL FESTICAB 2018

There we go! We are in 2018 to celebrate with you the tenth anniversary of FESTICAB. Thanks to all of you, we got there. Our main goal was to promote Burundian Cinema both nationally and internationally, and we can tell you that we have achieved it. With each edition, the number of Burundian films has increased, so the production has gradually evolved. In addition, some Burundian films that were awarded by FESTICAB traveled around the world.

As every year, it is a routine to choose a theme as regards an issue that makes the news both nationally and internationally. For this tenth edition, FESTICAB has chosen to focus on youth through its theme: "YOUTH, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEADERSHIP".

In Burundi, statistics portray that 52.5% of youth are unemployed. Many young Burundians and Africans complete their studies but fail to get work in both private and public sectors. This talented and creative category is just waiting to be utilized for the development of the nation instead of spending whole days at: drinking alcohol, drug consumption, robbery, etc. Youth are endowed with a productive force that must be exploited. As a Burundian saying states "UMUTWE UMWE NTIWIGIRA INAMA", these young people must form an association and think of a common development project and thus be able to offer and create their jobs.

But, entrepreneurship alone is not enough! It is essential that it be sustained by leadership values. To achieve this, the youth must have good leadership qualities, a careful listening, strong commitment, and trust towards their workmate.

Aware of all this, FESTICAB intends to encourage young people to resort to entrepreneurship but also bring the government to create Business Incubators to finance youth projects.

Thus, for a whole week, conferences, workshops and training on the theme will be organized for young Burundians and decision-makers. In addition to these peripheral activities, screenings of films will be organized for a week in various cinemas in Bujumbura and in the countryside.
