In Paris, Selima (Sabrina Ben Adjallah), a young nurse, experiences anti-Arab prejudice during her regular rounds of house-calls. She applies for a job caring for an elderly Jew, Esther (Arian Jacquot), a hot-tempered and cranky patient. Surprisingly, Selima and Esther like each other, and when Esther fires her housekeeper, Selima delicately recruits her own mother, Halima (Zohra Muoffok), to clean and cook kosher. Halima, a North African immigrant, identifies strongly with the plight of the Palestinians, and Selima knows she is walking a tightrope in bringing these two strong-willed women together. Eventually Halima and her husband must take the ailing Esther into their home, and Esther reveals the truth about her family history.

"Using non-professional actors, Philippe Faucon has created a morality play about Arab-Jewish relations, telling his story through delightful everyday moments - cooking, singing, dancing, talking and eating together. It is a feminine world in which unexpected and delightful friendships develop, and warmth abounds in the midst of highly charged racist confrontations. Faucon trains his camera on ordinary treasures, and on the extraordinary triumphs we can experience every day." - Hannah Fisher
