For the vast majority of us, refugee camps are a response to an emergency situation. However, the reality of the camps is quite different. The proliferation of camps around the world shows that this so-called exceptional situation is in fact a sustainable, lucrative, long-term system: a real market in which international organisations, nation-states and private investors find their profit. Twelve million people live in refugee camps around the world. More than 60 million people are forced to transit through these places of assembly. Camps, in various forms, are becoming commonplace all over the world. Who sets them up? With what legitimacy? Who benefits from them? Why do these camps proliferate and why do they persist? Is this the only solution to a migration policy that seems so difficult to define? Through a dive into the universe of these "invisible" places, this documentary renews our view of the phenomenon of contemporary migration. It describes and exposes the mechanisms of this major phenomenon: "the encampment of the world".
