Francisco Villa-Lobos and Philippe Avril founded Les Films de l'Étranger in October 2003 for developing European and non-European co-productions of art-house films. After having followed all over the world Vimukthi Jayasundara, Pedro Costa, Wang Bing and many other filmmakers, this French independent production company is now since a couple of years :
- opening ways for new future co-operations and projects,
- focusing mostly on European co-productions (feature films, TV-series).

LFE is a member of the :
- Trade-Union of French Independent Producers (SPI)
- Association of the Audio-Visual Producers in Alsace (APAA)
- Association of the Audio-Visual Producers in ‘Grand Est' Region (APAGE)
