In 2017, Aurélie Filain joined the "Talents La Kour" screenwriting residency, a scheme run by the Cinékour association. It was there that she began writing her first film, "La Course de Phaéton", a short fiction film. The film is part of the social realism genre and depicts the misadventures of a young housing estate resident. The film's script won the 2019 KISSFILMS prize at the Premiers Plans festival in Angers. In her films, the (Reunionese) director aims to show the other side of her island's picture-postcard backdrop and offer a new, committed look at the (social) realities of her territory, which she feels are not dealt with enough in (Reunionese) cinema.
