John Trengove completed a combined BA and Performer's Diploma with distinction at the University of Cape Town and a Masters at New York University's Graduate Film program. Since graduating he has been a filmmaker in the United States and South Africa, and his work has spanned short film, documentary, advertising and television drama, including two seasons on the award winning series The Lab. In 2010 John was awarded a gold Loerie award for his work on the Absa L'Atelier campaign, while Hopeville (2010), a miniseries which he head wrote and directed, won the prestigious Rose d'Or award in Lucerne Switzerland. Hopeville was released as a feature film this year, and recently received a nomination for best International Miniseries at the upcoming International Emmy Awards.
John Trengove is an award-winning director whose work spans theatre, television, documentary, commercials, short film and experimental video. His miniseries Hopeville received the Swiss Rose d'Or and was nominated for an International Emmy. His short film IBhokwe (The Goat) premiered at the Berlinale in 2014 and he is currently focusing on his first feature film The Wound (Inbexa).

Born in 1978, he lives in Johannesburg in South Africa. After studying at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York, he directed television, documentaries and commercials. His miniseries Hopeville won numerous awards at international festivals. He also works as a theatre director and his stage play'The Epicene Butcher' won the Amsterdam Fringe Festival award for best international production. His short film iBhokhwe (The Goat) screened in the Berlinale's Generation section and at over 20 other festivals. The Wound is his feature film debut.
