Modern Time Griot living in Lille, the ex MC of the Hip-Hop band Manitù releases his
album "L'Ombre des [MO]" ("The shadow of the words") in 2009. This first solo album
manages to paint the afro-mystical universe of a Roots Hip-Hop artist. A production that is "definitely personal and innovative", it's the opposite extreme of the "fast food rap".

Shabaaz creates his artistic non-profit organization Foula Foula (like a bus crossing the dust) in 2008. Foula Foula is an organization meant for promoting artistic creativity.
It's with this label that he releases his albums, as a free and independent artist.
Shabaaz's music is characterized by traditional tones mixed with urban tones : the lightness of the rhythmic and the traditional instruments melodies (kora, balafon, drums…) that break into singular Hip-Hop, it's the illustration of the mixing of his Congolese roots and his urban everyday life.

It's a unique universe made of the mixing that we find again in his last albums "Entre Béton et Baobab" (Between concrete and Baobab"), released in 2012 and "Roots Projectile", released in 2014, that are part of this path, this bridge, this link between two worlds, two shores, two lives!

He collaborates with many DJ's in Hip-Hop, such as DJ Bdx who accompanies him on stage and who participated to the making of many albums, on which we can also find music by Chuck l'Appache, from the Hip-Hop band Manitù. Shabaaz has also collaborated with DJ Vadim, on a track that will be in his next album.

But without music, what will remain? Words? Not only. There remains what the invisible inspires to the breath. Remains a track of the soul. The book of poems "Soul à Sanza" (Soul of a Sanza), released in 2014, published by Menaibuc, is part of what one can only find within himself. An elsewhere that is everywhere. A never that is always.

Shabaaz is currently touring with his third album "D'Une Rive à l'Autre" ("From a shore to another") and his Play SOUL A SANZA. He's also presenting his books of poems "Traces" and "Deep Bantou Poetik", published by Foula Foula & Iḍ sur le NIL.
