Simona CELLA is a film historian, professor and journalist.

She graduated in cinema history (University of Parma, Italy), with a thesis on Djibril Diop Mambéty, Senegalese filmmaker.
After a long experience as a development project manager at the film production company Lumière et Co., she specialized in the development and management of cultural projects related to Africa. From 2008 to 2015, she planned the activities of the Festival of the Asian and Latin American African Film Festival in Milan (FESCAAAL). She has acquired a long experience as a teacher and currently teaches in a vocational training center. She is the author of topics and scripts for documentaries and feature films. She is part of the editorial team of the biennial magazine "Africa e Mediterraneo" (Sasso Marconi, Bologna, Italy). She writes about cinema in the fortnightly "Africa" (Milano).
She directed (with Cinzia‍ QUADRATI), the book "Djibril Diop Mambéty ou le voyage de la hyène" (preface by Martin Scorsese), 2020, 182 p., ed. L'Harmattan editions, Paris (Italian version: "Djibril Diop Mambéty o il viaggio della iena. La rivoluzione cinematografica di un visionario regista senegalese", L'Harmattan Italia, 2019).
