Custodians of historical and cultural heritage of PNG

PNG National Museum and Art Gallery is a museum, cultural centre, gallery, library, archive, government department or ministry, government historic preservation office, interpretive centre, national park, national trust and statutory Body enacted by law.

Collections

Our collections are aesthetic master pieces of PNG's cultural and historical heritage including artefacts, paintings, war relics etc. We also have a range of educational programs intended for communicating this heritage to the public.

Number of items in the collection: more than 600 000

The collection contains items of the following types: Art, Heritage, Photography, Cultural or Ethnographic, Archaeological, Natural History (Animal Specimens, wet and dry), Plant or Botanical Specimens, Contemporary, Scientific or Technology, Maps and geographical or geological drawings, Audio/visual material, Books or Journals, Posters, Pamphlets, Documents or Paper-based items, Outdoor sculpture, art or monuments, war relics.

Opening Hours

Weekdays: 8.30am - 3.00pm
Saturdays: closed but opens upon requests
Sundays: 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Other times: can open after hours for special occassions

Group bookings: A nominal charge is imposed for opening during non opening hours
