For four years Isaac Godfrey Nabwana made and sold bricks in Kampala's Wakalinga slum. But now, thanks to his labours, he is building what he hopes will become Uganda's answer to Nollywood. "I was selling bricks and from [the sales] I bought a video [camera]. I worked very hard to get it," states Nabwana. He has established an independent audio and film studio in a local Kampala slum. Nabwana, 40, has made about 35 movies in the last five years. He now produces "between three and five" a year, all in the local Luganda language with English subtitles. Ramon Studios has clearly taken off where Hillywood left off so many years ago yet with a much more ambitous productin program and many more collaborators.
