An astonished festival celebration for the people of Santa Catalina, Makira Uluwa Province which reflect their olden days events for their spear head warriors.
Wogosia means 'to worship' and the festival has religious origins. Its main purpose is to petition a certain class of supernatural entities called the Supernaturals of the Inhabited Land for security from invasion, social harmony, good health, abundant food and general prosperity during the coming year.
Weeks before the festival starts, a prologue begins with the burning of two kind of reef fish at the altar of the Waisgini Canoe House. During the offering, the man performing the ritual not only calls the deities attention to it, but also asks them to make fair weather and good fishing until the Wogosia festival is finished.
During the festival, the men from Santa Catalina island make their symbolic march down from the island's highest point to begin the spear fighting as part of 'Wogosia'.
