The Omniversal Earkestra, an underground big band, travels to Mali to meet and play with the stars of the almost forgotten Mali 70 era. They journey through the country from Bamako to Mopti and meet musicians such as Salif Keita, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Sory Bamba and the Mystere Jazz de Tombouctou. Together they overcome cultural, musical and beat misunderstandings and record an album at Salif Keita's Moffou studio in Bamako.

Markus Schmidt started his film-career on old school 35mm film. He studied film editing at the East German Film School HFF right after the fall of the Berlin wall. As an editor, he has worked on documentaries such as Merry Me , The Cleaners and Mali Blues amongst others. Plus he has directed award-winning films, including feature-length documentaries like The Last Catch and Sleeping Monsters.
