Mozambique's capital Maputo is divided along lines of language and color, infrastructure, architecture and gender. MAPUTO: THE ETHNOGRAPHY OF A DIVIDED CITY is a poetic and visually beautiful journey through the urban landscapes of the city. We are introduced to fascinating people who share their stories and their views on the social structures. From slums to skyscrapers we encounter everything from Portuguese entrepreneurs and Indian shop keepers to street vendors that rap in changanam. The resulting film is a subtle and beautiful portrait of a multifaceted community, based on research from the Chr. Michelsens Institute.
