Ten years after 156 states signed a convention to rid the world of landmines, a UN summit was held in Cartagena Colombia in November 2009. This film was commissioned to be played during the summit to showcase Rwanda as being one of the few countries to have met its mine clearing obligations. The 1994 war and genocide in Rwanda had many consequences. It was estimated that 20,000 people lived and worked among minefields. With a never ending cycle of corruption and poverty destroying many African nations from within, the Rwandan landmine clearance success story stands alone as an example to the rest of the world that by using outside aid in a positive and constructive way anything is possible.
