Umboko is a baby elephant with a problem: his tusks just will not grow. He seeks advice from his elders and is sent to the hamerkop, said to be the wisest bird on the continent. After waiting patiently, Umboko is finally rewarded with a remedy from the hamerkop and his tusks grow...and grow...and grow. The story touches on many aspects of wildlife and conservation, which children can absorb while enjoying the story. Umboko and his animal friends are delightfully illustrated.
