The National Library of Trinidad and Tobago stands juxtaposed to three historic landmarks: The Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Red House and Woodford Square in downtown Port of Spain.

This state-of-the-art, ultra modern library facility is the administrative seat and focal point of NALIS' libraries and information service centres in Trinidad and Tobago.

The National Library houses the offices of the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director, the Management Team, the divisions of Finance, Human Resource Management, Educational Library Services and Information Networks.

The building also houses the departments of Public Relations and Marketing, Research, Planning and Development, Technical Services and the offices of the Corporate Secretary and Senior Internal Auditor.

The National Library is the prime centre for information needs whether for research, leisure or entertainment.    Journals can be read in a relaxed atmosphere, patrons can borrow books, listen to lectures, surf the Internet or find out about Trinidad and Tobago and Caribbean history, people and places.

Patrons can view movies, discuss current issues, photocopy material on their own using the smart card copiers and use one of the 160 computers available to the public.  Users can also obtain information on numerous career choices at the library.  The National Library is equipped with the latest technology including an automated self-check-out system to fast track the borrowing process and an automated materials handling system to facilitate the return process.

The National Library is open to everyone and welcomes all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago as well as visitors to our country. Our professional, courteous members of staff are well trained in accessing information from diverse sources and in various media. The National Library of Trinidad and Tobago houses the Heritage Library collection, a Children's Library, a Young Adult Library and an Adult Library with reference services.

In addition to these services, the National Library makes available for public use at a minimal fee, its Audio Visual Room with seating capacity for 100 persons, the Amphitheatre with seating accommodation for approximately 440 persons, its multipurpose lecture rooms, and spiraling cylindrical atrium with skylight - great for exhibitions!

As you enter the National Library,  you will find the Children's and Young Adult Libraries, the News Media Centre, which is open to the public either for exhibitions or for viewing news, sporting or cultural events. Also housed on the ground level is the Photo Identification Room where library cards are issued.
