"Africa e Mediterraneo" has launched a contest for best unpublished comic strip. It is open to every African citizen living in or out of Africa. The prize includes two categories:
- "Creative comic story - free subject"
- "Comic story on human rights".
The Emilia Romagna Region in Italy supports the contest as part of the "African Comics" project and is co-financed by the Agence Intergouvernementale de la Francophonie.

The second edition of the context will open before end 2002. The goal of this contest is to contribute to the artistic situation in Africa and to promote their artists.

The first edition of the contest (deadline June 30, 2002), resulted in an exhibition of selected works by the participants. The Museum of Art of Ravenna (Italy), hosted the exhibition and the ceremony for the Africa e Mediterraneo Prize 2002, on July 19,2002. A colour catalogue was published.

Africa e Mediterraneo aims at diffusing information about Africa, at giving the continent a voice and at the same time contributing to intercultural knowledge. This is a current concern considering the close link between Italy and African countries and the creation of recent migratory flux. Each number contains: a monographic dossier which investigates a particular issue, a section about African and Mediterranean countries' recent events and situations, articles about African Literature, Art, Cinema, Music, other sections about Interculture and Education, Projects of Co-operation and Education to Development, Immigration. In addition, the "Rubriche" sector contains reviews of books and films, art expositions, conferences.

The Association Africa e Mediterraneo and Lai-momo co-operative's activities are the following:
1 - editing and publishing of the quarterly magazine "Africa e Mediterraneo";
2 - realisation of art expositions;
3 - realisation of intercultural projects also on an International level;
4 - organization of refresher courses for teachers and conferences.
