After the success of Monia et Rama (on CFI and TV5, and some African channels), the young directress from Burkina Faso has just produced her second cinematographic work, entitled "Kounandi", which means welcome in dioula language (the second language, most spoken language in the country). Produced by the Films de la Plaine of Idrissa Ouedraogo, Kounandi, which lasts 49 minutes, is performed by actors such as Deborah Coty, Noufou Ouedrago and Aminata Dao, and the music is by Manu Dibango.

During the trial opposing a man who accused her wife of not being faithful to him, while the wife said that her husband was no longer a man because he spent nights snoring, a woman came all of a sudden and gave birth to a baby before dying.

To reconcile the two consorts, the chief decided to give them that newly born baby whom they named after Kounandi, who later revealed to be a midget. Therefore they became the laughing stock of the village…

Appolinaire's film presents the hardships that handicaped people have to find their place in the society. It is a plea for solidarity. Appolinaire Traoré studied in Emerson College in Boston, before going to better herself at NYU. She worked in the USA before going back to Burkina faso in 2000. Since then, she has been working as a film directress and film maker.
This is her second film.
