It is a unique opportunity to take a sabbatical from work and spend it in an environment which will be culturally different, educational and interesting. The choice of subjects available for study are various and numerous. (Please note that there are no courses on journalism available and no qualifications are awarded at the end of the Fellowship).
The ideal candidate is probably aged 35+ and must be working for a newspaper in membership of the CPU.
More details are available on the Massey College website www.utoronto.ca/massey/ where the information on the Canadian Journalism Fellowship Program will, in the most part, apply to the Gordon Fisher Fellowship. The University of Toronto's website is www.utoronto.ca. Applicants must have excellent spoken and written English. Interviews will be conducted on the telephone by Massey College's selection committee. On the CPU website www.cpu.org.uk, you will find details on the current Gordon Fisher Fellows (two were selected in 2002) and be able to download the application form in Word format.
The course begins on 1 September 2003 and ends on 30 April 2004. The deadline for applications is 18 FEBRUARY 2003 so forms should be faxed to me (NOT emailed) on fax +44 20 7583 6868 and the original copies mailed.
Receipt of applications will not be acknowledged and could potential applicants kindly seek answers to their queries from the CPU and Massey College websites.
