AN OPEN CALL: African Women in Cultural Leadership ( AWCL) Mentorship Program.

Arterial Network Kenya (ANK) with the support of Africalia Belgium would like to invite applications for the Mentorship Program under the African Women in Cultural Leadership 
(AWCL) starting from September till December 2015. The mentorship program will be conducted in Nairobi for the Nairobi residents only.  
 
 
About  the  Program 
 
Since 2010, ANK has since been involved in a number of activities, including the monthly Catch-Up events, various advocacy and capacitybuilding programs both in Nairobi and within the counties, and more recently, the Artwatch Africa workshop, Launch and a regional seminar on African Women in Cultural Leadership [AWCL].   
 AWCL is focused in building the leadership capacity of young women operating within the cultural space including facilitating a culture of learning and knowledge sharing among women cultural leaders. Among the proposed activities of AWCL is the mentorship program which seeks to target 50 women from 5 subsectors for a period of 4 months beginning September until December 2015. It will target mentees from Film, Music, Photography, Visual art and Craft. 
 The mentorship program will involve a meeting with the mentor once every month and regular 
communication between the mentor and the mentee throughout the month.  
 
Overview,  objectives and  expected  outcome of  the  programme. 
 
Within the overall aim of AWCL of fostering an enabling environment for women's 
participation and leadership in arts and cultural spaces in Kenya and Africa as a whole, the Mentorship program will seek to build relationships within the sector which will help mentees find business direction, access networks and contacts, improve communication and build confidence.  
The program will seek to provide leadership skills and empower women already practicing in various cultural and creative subsectors or those intending to enter these fields. The program will be done by a cadre of experienced women who have already been approached as potential mentors.  Even though the matching of the mentor mentee will be done by variety of ways, ANK believes in the quality of relationships which will be built during and after the program.  
 
The main objectives of the program are: 
To help women emerge with enhanced entrepreneurship skills to help grow  business and commercialize their creative content.  
To empower women to take up more pro active roles in leadership and decision making within the cultural and creative industries.  To reinvigorate experienced women cultural leaders and attract new women into the field of cultural and creative industries leadership.  To enhance information and knowledge sharing among women within the  cultural and creative spaces. 
 
Eligibility  criteria. 
Applications are invited by individuals from Nairobi county or environs. 
Other qualifications include: 
A practitioner within cultural and creative sector in the field of film, visual arts,music, craft or photography.  Students can apply as long as they have practiced in any of the above fields.   Between 21 and 30 years of age.
