The inaugural Night of Praise and Worship concert kicked off on Friday at the Kaizen Club in the city centre.

It is strange for a gospel event to take place in a night club, but Pastor Yves Kalinda of Peace Evangelical Church was quick to clear the air when he told people that Christianity is in one's heart and not where they go to pray from.

"We organised this, knowing that people would be curious and wonder how a gospel event can be hosted in a club," he told the congregation.

Kalinda said every Friday, Kaizen club, will host the weekly night of praise concert. The event commenced at 9pm with songs of praise and worship led by the director of Uwondiwe Show, Geraldine Uwingabire Kalinda-with songs like Mambo Sawa Sawa and Hallelujah Amen.

The well-designed and elegant venue filled up with different artistes, choirs and dancing groups which were determined to ensure that the inaugural show was a success.

The club looked striking and dazzling as usual but the only difference was that this time it was a gospel night not the usual secular themes.

Ladies dressed in cocktail dresses and men in their elegant suits looked personable for a gospel night.

Musicians including Mani Martin, The Worshippers, John Ndabarasa, Celestin Bikorimana, Theogene Uwiringiyimana aka Theo Bosebabireba and The Soldiers of Christ dancing group put up spirited performances.

The project was initiated by Uwondiwe Arts and Entertainment Company which sealed a deal with the Kaizen Club located on Kigali City Tower to temporarily close down the bar and club every Friday and let the gospel atmosphere prevail till late night.

The aim of the event is to promote Christian entertainment and for Christians to feel that they can also enjoy a good night out dancing to gospel music and performances.

"We don't want Christians, mostly the youth to secretly go to these places because they don't feel free, but we initiated this idea for everyone just because we wanted Christians to feel that they too can have fun in a Christian way," added Pastor Kalinda.

Entry fee to the weekly event is Rwf10, 000 for ordinary and Rwf20, 000 for VIP.
