SEACONET is a sub regional network , launched in 2008,whose main objective is to strengthen collaboration, cooperation and facilitation in the fields of copyright, related rights and creative industries in Southern and Eastern Africa. Members are copyright offices, collective management organization (copyright societies) and other stakeholders in the fields mentioned above in Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. SEACONET already identified its priority areas which include harmonization of copyright legislations in the sub region (it has already finalised and adopted a sample copyright law), strengthening collective management of copyright and related rights, sub regional approach in the fight against piracy, facilitation of studies on the contribution of creative industries to national and sub regional development, contribution in the fight against HIV and AIDS, creation of a database of works and their creators.
