The film tells the true story of Charity, a young girl from the Masai Mara region, Kenya. Charity looks forward to the day she will be circumcised, making her a woman like her elders. But one day, she sees a video on the dangers and consequences of the practice. She suddenly changes her mind. Her mother supports her, while the father is afraid of the village's reaction.

This video - together with other seven - has been produced in 2017 in the framework of "Building Bridges between Africa and Europe to tackle FGM/C". The project aims to increase the effectiveness of actions against FGM/C and improve the living conditions of girls and women in Africa and Europe by building bridges between young people from the civil society organisations (CSOs), professionals (media, health, psycho‐social, etc.) and communities from targeted African countries and migrant communities in Europe, by sharing good practices, strengthening links, and adapting existing best practices in a mutual learning and exchange perspective.

"Against All Odds" (Contro ogni probabilità) racconta la storia vera della sua autrice. Charity è cresciuta in un villaggio del Masai Mara in Kenya, dove le mutilazioni genitali femminili sono considerate una tradizione molto importante. Lei stessa da bambina non vedeva l'ora di esservi sottoposta. Un giorno però a scuola vede un film e da quel momento tutto cambia.

Documentario scritto e diretto da Charity Resian e Andrea Iannetta, realizzato nell'ambito del progetto "Building Bridges: Costruire ponti tra Africa ed Europa per fermare le mutilazioni genitali femminili (Mgf)".

Questo video - insieme agli altri sette della playlist - è stato realizzato nel 2017 all'interno del progetto "Building Bridges between Africa and Europe to tackle FGM/C". Il progetto mira ad aumentare l'efficacia delle azioni per mettere fine alle mutilazioni genitali femminili (MGF) e migliorare il benessere di donne e bambine in Africa e in Europa, creando legami tra comunità africane, giovani attiviste e attivisti, professioniste e professionisti (chi lavora nei settori della comunicazione, salute, assistenza psicosociale etc.) che hanno a che fare con le MGF in Europa e in Africa.
