In a remote village in the middle of the savannah, the son of the village chief proposes to Saikati, a young and beautiful Masai woman. Saikati's dreams of education and independence fade away - unless she runs away from the village to go to the city where her cousin, Monique, promises her a job. Saikati quickly understands she means being a prostitute. She refuses, finishes her studies and goes back to the village to face the reality of her situation.
