"As a child, I climbed upon a stool to reach the balcony so as not to lose any of the show displayed in my street in Casablanca. On Saturday, our day of rest, the wandering musicians would come under our windows to collect a few coins. Amongst them the Black Gnawas with their multicoloured costumes, their big drum hanging from their neck and their hat whirling on top of their head were at the same time frightening and fascinating.Later, as a teenager, my ear glued to the radio. I guessed more than I heard the Jazz and Rock tunes aired by the BBC or the Voice of America, between the statics and the protestations of my parents. WITH DRUMS BEATING tries to ask, if not to answer to the following questions : what is the place of music in the identification of an individual with his social cultural and religious family; What is the mystery that makes music able to link a man with the world but as well and moreover with himself.
