He was born in Santo Domingo. He studied dramatic arts at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (National School of Fine Arts) and then enrolled at the Art Students League of New York. He took classes with Cuban painter, Roger Fonseca. He has served as the president of Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plasticos (Dominican School of Plastic Artists) and as Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Santo Domingo(Santo Domingo Museum of Modern Art). His painting is photographic (he is the first to produce photo-realism in the country), but only to try and show, within the socio-political frame, a later sense of things. The objects that he creates are icons of everyday life, be the Santo Domingo as a neighborhood or the New York's melting-pot.
