Though Makonde Anthony Bruno is born on Zanzibar in 1946. But his parents as many Makonde people escaped war in Mozambique and settled in Tanzania. He didn't stay on Zanzibar long time before he moved to small town Ndanda in southern Tanzania. He was child at that time and he embarked primary school education there. In Ndanda he studied the first four years and the last two years he studied in Lukuledi, ca 30 km north fo Ndanda. He learned the carving techniques from Mr. Mwidingi. In 1969 he came to Dar es Salaam. Because he was maybe influenced from the mission in Ndanda he mostly carves religious scultures as St. Maria, Jesus etc. His carvings decorate  number of churches as for instance the door of church in Singida. He has 2 wifes and 15 children, part of family lives in Mozambique.
