Born in 1956 in Niger, land of his mother where his Senegalese father was working at the time, Ismaël Lô grew up in Rufisque, near Dakar. After some years with Diamono, a group idolized by the young people of the country, Ismaël Lô began his solo career and surrounded himself with musicians capable of composing music which combines the local rhythms of m'balax with soul, rhythm and blues, and melodies from the Peul and Mandingo tradition; all part of his inspiration. He gains international recognition in very little time, especially thanks to his ballad "Tajabone".
