Born in 1957, Joseph Bitamba, a pioneer in animation in Burundi, first worked at the Burundian National Television (RTNB) as head of children's and youth programmes. In Burundi, he had produced a few programme trailers and a model that he wanted to launch, but due to a lack of adequate technical and financial resources, he had to abandon his projects. The 5-minute model is entitled "I comme image" and was broadcast in 1989 by RTNB. He then followed several training courses in Belgium, France and Burkina Faso and obtained a certificate in scriptwriting at the International School of Bordeaux, as well as a certificate in film production management in Paris, at the National Institute of Audio-visual (INA). Since 2003, Joseph Bitamba has been living in Toronto, Canada, where he has been directing documentaries organized by the NFB (National Film Board of Canada).
