Senegalese Film Expert, Academic, Film Critic and Cultural Manager.

Born in 13 September 1971 in Saint-Louis, Senegal.

He is a Senegalese researcher in Comparative cinema and a Film Critic. Lecturer in Film Studies at Bordeaux 3 University (France, 1999-2023) and at Niamey University (Niger, 2014-2020). Thierno I. Dia is a PhD candidate in Arts, about Senegalese filmmaker Djibril DIOP Mambéty, Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt and postcolonial films. He is the Chief Editor and a film critic at Africiné Magazine, the World Leader dedicated to African & Diaspora Films (Dakar, www.africine.org). As Chief Editor, he runs Images Francophones (professional website established by La Francophonie, Paris). He worked as Film Coordinator at the 3rd World Black Film Festival, in Dakar (FESMAN 2010) alongside with Mbye Cham and Baba Diop, the Film Commisioner. He was the Curator of Ciné Palabres (2003-2011), monthly cine-club at Bordeaux Mériadeck Public Library. He is the Film Curator of the upcoming Nataal Film & Music Festival (Saint-Louis, Senegal, February 2015). He is a former Radio Host at Radio Campus Bordeaux (Bordeaux), about African & Diaspora Films.
Thierno Dia published many articles and authored several lectures (Berlin, La Réunion, Verona, Padova, Poitiers, Bordeaux, Bayreuth, Libreville...). He edited (in collaboration with Alice Arecco, Annamaria Gallone & Alessandra Speciale) "Ousmane Sembène" (Milano, 2009, Il Castoro) and coedited with Olivier Barlet the special issue "Sembène Ousmane (1923-2007)", Africultures n°76 (Paris, March 2009).
Forthcoming books: "Cinemas francophones et critiques" (Editor / Vanuit het Zuiden, Amsterdam & Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, Paris), "La construction et les représentations identitaires" (co-editor with Daniela Ricci & Thomas Louis Cepitelli), at L'Harmattan, Paris.
Thierno received a Time Life Achievement Award (Prix Spécial) at 2018 Image et Vie Film Festival (Dakar), a Aknowledge Award at Verona African Film Festival in 2010 and a at Milano Africa Asia Latin America FilmFest in 2011. He served as President and Jury Member at several Film Festivals (Cozes, Fespaco, Carthage, Luxor, Yasmine Hammamet).
He lives in Bordeaux, Southern France.

Thierno Ibrahima Dia ist ein senegalesischer Kunstwissenschaftler und Filmkritiker, der an der Universität von Bordeaux unterrichtet und zurzeit an einer Doktorarbeit über das Werk von Djibril Diop-Mambéty, den Dramaturgen Friedrich Dürrenmatt und das postkoloniale Filmschaffen schreibt. Neben seinen Tätigkeiten als Filmkritiker und Autor zahlreicher Bücher und Artikel zum afrikanischen Kino in vergleichender Perspektive, ist Dia Koordinator des weltweit größten Internetportals über das afrikanische und diasporische Kino (Africiné Magazine) und hat zahlreiche junge Filmkritiker/innen ausgebildet.
