Moisés Ernesto Matsinhe Mafuiane, known as Butcheca, is a Mozambican visual artist born on the 23rd of April in 1978, in Maputo/Mozambique. As a self-taught artist he started to be seriously involved in Painting in the beginning of the 90’s, becoming in 1997 an associated member of Núcleo de Arte, where he uses to show his work regularly. In 2002, he did his first individual exhibition with the title A Menina de Verde, at Fortaleza de Maputo. He visited Portugal in 2003, where he lived for a while and made his second individual, O Meu Beco, at Jorge Vieira Museum, in Beja. In the following year, he presented Mercado Informal, again at Fortaleza de Maputo. He has been participating in several exhibitions in different cultural places in Maputo such as Instituto Camões Gallery, Núcleo de Arte, Gallery Museum Chissano and CCFM – Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, where he presented Chauffeur – O Motorista do Butcheca, in 2009. In 2010 visited Portugal for the second time and presented Universidade da Rua (2010), in Art in Park/Spazio Dual by IMV, in Lisbon, and in Geraldes da Silva Gallery, in Oporto. Ruínas do Passado is his last individual exhibition which was shown at CCFM – Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, in Maputo, in August 2011. In 2012, participated in Expo Arte Contemporânea - Muvart'12 with works exhibited at Fortaleza de Maputo and project ZIMOkAD - Zimbabwe Mozabique Cultural Art Dialogue.
