Thirty five year old Samoan artist, Lalovai Peseta, has lived and worked in Samoa, Amerika Samoa and Hawai'i since graduating from Leulumoega Fou School of Fine Arts in 1998.
Recently Lalovai exhibited paintings at the 11th Festival of Pacific Arts in Honiara, Solomon Islands, where he represented Amerika Samoa as a carver, designing a Samoan wooden drum, pate, for the Solomon Islands government. At this diverse and rich regional gathering of Pacific artists, Lalovai was reinspired to explore his personal motto "Art is my Life, Life is my Art".
A feature of Lalovai Peseta's work is his enjoyment in experimenting with common perceptions of Samoan symbolism, through abstract expression, and playful use of colour, shape and form. Tatau designs, both subtle and explicit, are an ever-present theme in the body of work by Lalovai.
