Ndlovu Majayahodwa (Jeys Marabini)

Jeys Marabini emerges from a Southern African cultural crucible and heritage that spawned the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Dorothy Masuka, Ilanga, Augustine Musarurwa, Chiwoniso Maraire, Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi. Starting out in 1991 as a member of an Imbube (traditional acappella harmony singing) ensemble called Comforting Brothers which later adopted a more culturally relevant moniker in the name Imbizo, Jeys has forged a musical legacy that melds Afro-Pop, Imbube, and the rich traditional sounds indigenous to Southern Africa. You hear in his music the voice of a high tenor Maskandi singer complete with acoustic guitar (that sometimes morphs into a spear when he begins to dance), the plaintive Imbube influence and the chugging rhythmic sounds that complete a sensuous soundscape.

 

He has performed in South Africa, Swaziland India, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland, USA, the Middle East and United Kingdom. Jeys graced some of the world's biggest festivals and stages such as WOMAD, Lamatree, Glastonbury and Edinburgh. Locally, he has performed at most of the Zimbabwean festivals and performed at national events. He has also won several awards for his creative prowess. His compositions are engaging, the performances are visually stimulating and the sound appeals to a broad range of listeners from different backgrounds. The band's ability to match the perfect blend of sensational sound and impressive choreography wows audiences. The band is made up of seasoned vocalists and instrumentalists.
