Oblino Magaia is a Mozambican artist of the first generation. He was born in 1940. He is one of the founder of the Matalana Cultural Centre, in Marracuene (40km from the capital Maputo), where he was born.

His beginning as an artist came from his meeting with other artists, such as Mankew, in South Africa, then when he came back to Mozambique, Malangatana, Alberto Chissano... He became then a sculptor.

He worked first with wood. Then, after an internship in Bulgaria in 1983 where he worked on marble, stone became one of his materials.
