Airte Malawi sponsor Lake of Stars festival with K11.2 million

Airtel Malawi, one the country premier mobile phone provider has injected K11.2million into this years Lake of Stars music festival becoming the biggest sponsor of the annual festival since its inception.


Announcing the sponsorship at a function in Malawi's Capital Lilongwe, Airtel's Chief Commercial Officer Charles Kamoto said that as a company Airtel is impressed with the way the festival has further escalated the exposure of Malawi's culture, music and tourism to the rest of the world.



"As a firm advocate of the arts and culture sectors, we felt duty bound to support and uplift such an amazing initiative. And it is for this reason that Airtel Malawi is today sponsoring this years festival to the tune of K11.2million," said Kamoto.



As a brand, Airtel has supported different cultural and music initiatives like the Malawi Music Awards, Mwezi Wawala music project, the Airtel TRACE Music Stars among others.



"Music, culture and art play a critical role in our society and Lake of Stars stands out as one of the biggest festivals in the world that brings people together from all walks of life to celebrate music and the arts together despite their racial, political and cultural affiliations," said Kamoto.



Receiving the donation the founder of Lake of Stars festival Will Jameson thanked Airtel Malawi for coming up with such a huge sponsorship saying it will really boost this years festivals making it much bigger than the previous years.



"The sponsorship will be used to the main budget of the festival which will include flying in international artists to the festival, pay for the accomodation and food including local movement within the country," said Jameson.



Jameson said this years festival, which has been slated for September 25-27 will attract artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kenya and including various big names in Malaw's music and cultural industry and is expected to attract about 4,500 attendees.



Lake of Stars festival is an annual three day international festival held on the shores of Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa and was started in 2004 and attracts over 3000 attendees with musical acts from Africa and the United.Kingdom.



The festival was founded by.Will Jameson who came to Malawi as a tourist in 1998. In 2014 the festival was named one of the top seven African music festivals to attend by CNN and Time Out named it as having the most beautiful festival location in the world.
