Balaka-based group Alleluya Band on Tuesday left for Italy for performances.

The group every year holds shows in Italy as part of raising funds for different projects at Andiamo in Balaka.

Last month the group also held a concert at La Caverna in Blantyre which was part of raising funds to assist one of the hospitals in Balaka which offers different health services to the community, including free treatment to children under-five and pregnant women.

The group's band leader Paul Subiri, who took over the mantle from veteran Coss Chiwalo told The Daily Times during the Blantyre concert that they were ready for the Italy tour where they will hold several shows.

He, however, said they decided to start the fundraising shows in the country this time around, before going to Italy.

"We thought we should also reach out to the country on this fundraising drive hence having it here first before going to Italy," said Subiri.

The group is expected back home mid August and according to Patrick Bwanali, the group which has helped produce several musicians in the country including brothers Paul and Lucius, will perform at a cultural festival today.

Alleluya Band will also perform at the Expo Milano 2015 on June 24.

Apart from raising funds for different causes, the group has been utilising the tours to record albums as well as produce T-shirts which they sell when they come back.

However, despite recording different albums every year, the albums have failed to make a mark on the market.

The group stood out when it came to producing albums in the past years but it is not the case this time where they still pride in performing songs which were released in the past years.

The group has scored a point in that the tours have helped them come up with perfect live performances fused with different traditional dances.

According to the calendar of the tour dubbed Kamvulumvulu, the group will hold close to 40 shows starting today with the last performance on August 15 before coming back.

Veteran Paul Banda, who performs with the group, has not made the trip.

Asked what will happen to him in terms of performances in the absence of Alleluya Band, the legendary musician said it is not a worry for him and will wait for them.

He could not be drawn to say as to whether he will be performing with another band now that Alleluya Band has gone to Italy.
