Ghana-based Malawian fashion designer Alinafe Misomali continues to soar as she has been nominated for that country's top fashion award.
The nomination comes a year after she won a lucrative dollar fund and a tailor-made fashion training with a Dutch firm promoting production of African Print, Vlisco Fashion Fund.

Alinafe, who is in Accra as a full time fashion designer after completing her fashion and designing studies, is among the nominees of the Fashion Icon Awards, a unique and glamorous celebration to recognize, reward and motivate stakeholders in the Ghana fashion industry.
The honorary awards have excited the designer.
"It was open to the public to nominate who they feel should win. It feels really good but scary at the same time. Good because it means people are happy with what I'm doing despite the fact that I'm from Malawi and this is happening in Ghana.
"Scary because all the brands I'm competing against are well established and doing exceptionally well and also they have tremendous home ground support since they're Ghanaian brands," said Alinafe in an interview.
The awards scheme was established to help nurture the rich kernels of talent scattered liberally throughout the fashion industry, and shine a spotlight on most creative eclectic designers, whose full potential has been thus far unrealised, according to Event Administrator, Jennifer Richlove.
"Fashion Icon Awards is a platform designed to encourage, recognise and reward local and international designer and fashion business successes based in Ghana, who have contributed or invested in the local fashion industry, creating sustainable economies through building of a rich resource base and capacity utilisation through viable strategic partnerships," she explained.
Nomination and voting is a thorough process that is determined by public nomination and a panel of industry
experts with various areas of expertise.
