Did you know that Kenyan-born Mugendi K. M'Rithaa is the first African to ever hold the presidency of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design? Professor Mugendi, currently residing in CapeTown, is an industrial designer, educator and researcher at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. A believer that design significantly impacts society, Mugendi maintains that it's imperative that designers of the future have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of social issues if they're to bring about change; transformative design means that designers seek to genuinely improve the quality of life of all people, not just their paying clients.
