Mzuzu based Sozo Wear Inc who are in the trade of fashion designing have announced that they will launch their brand on May 2 at Grand Palace Hotel in the city.

Sozo Wear's designer who also happens to be the Chief Executive Officer, Kondwani Phiri revealed the news on Friday.

Phiri said the idea of the launch is to reach out to people but also use it as a platform to inspire fellow youths.

"We are touched with youths involvement in social forces of crime like theft, murder in order to grab things that do not belong to them due to idleness hence we set an example by creating a job in fashion designing at Mundewa school in Mzuzu," he said.

Phiri, who was taught fashion designing by renowned designer Lily Alfonso, said he came together with three fellow youths Steve Siyame, Kuleza Chaweza, and McDonald Nkhata and set up Sozo Wear.

He said they are currently using a sewing machine which his father bought years back and that they would want to add more tools to produce more quality works.

Phiri said as youths, they need not ask the government on what it should do for them but rather they should tell government what they should do for it to develop.

"At our group we have no sponsor but through the machine we have, we have seen wealth and so we are suing it to generate capital through making suits, bangles and shirts among others," he said.

Phiri challenged fellow youths willing to change their lives to learn from them and that they will be trained.

He then appealed to the corporate world to assist them in among others helping advertise their brand.

Phiri said there will have lots of activities during the launch including treating people to a dinner.

"We will have dinner at K15, 000 single, couple K25, 000, corporate table of 10 people at K160 000 while the VIP table shall be served at K200,000," said Phiri, adding that the guest of honour during the event will be Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture.
