Almost a year after being launched in Malawi, one of Lilongwe art galleries, Tindoz d'Afrique has organised a two-day art exhibition.
It will be a celebration of paintings, crafts, curios and wood carvings of different shapes and sizes, bead art, sculpture, furniture, textiles and all exotic pieces of art from Malawi under one roof.
Even T-shirts made from a combination of locally made fabrics, chitenjes and sandals will all be there.
The exhibition starts on June 5 to the early evening of the following day at Pacific Mall, in Area 10.
"Tindoz d'Afrique has got a wide variety of artifacts. The aim of the exhibition is to promote and market proudly Malawian art coming from talented Malawians whose works and talents struggle to find expression in markets such as Lilongwe," said owner Terri Mashanda.
The artists who will be showcasing their work at the exhibition are Steve K Phiri, William Chikomo, Blessings Chodola, William Mwale and Rod Chimpele, among others.
"Tindoz d'Afrique is on a mission to assist these artists and ensure that their works find the right market here in Malawi and abroad. The exhibition will afford individuals and organisations an opportunity to develop art and craft in Malawi, which in turn will contribute to the socio-economic development of Malawi.
"Tindoz d'Afrique is committed to developing art and craft, developing and sustaining small and medium size enterprises in art and craft sector. Malawian culture, history and everyday life is captured most beautifully through the works of these artists from underprivileged backgrounds. Bringing this Malawian story to the market and supporting these artists is the essence of the existence of our gallery," explained Mashanda.
