As a commercial art fair, our fully-curated approach is a first for the continent. Through our carefully selected panel of curators, the event will present a unique snapshot of Africa's most exciting contemporary talents, allowing for an immersive, multi-sensory art experience from a diverse range of contemporary artists from Africa and the diaspora.

The ART AFRICA FAIR is structured around a dynamic curatorial programme with an open call for participation to artists and gallerists. Unlike other commercial fairs, our curatorial model favours an alternative, museum-styled exhibition experience that invites artists and gallerists to propose work that provokes alternate artistic visions of the continent, as defined by individual, lived experiences. This diverse curatorial approach is an attempt to transform vernacular African ideas into tangible expressions, to challenge stereotypical understandings, and to introduce, propagate, and take responsibility for new representations about Africa, from Africa. As participating curator Uche Okpa-Iroha describes, "Our story starts with us. It is an exciting journey, and who better to tell it?"

Channeling their accumulative expertise through an open call for participation, the ART AFRICA FAIR 2017 will become an important addition to the international events calendar and ushers in a new wave of creative energy, celebrating the artist as the hero of the show.
