Public art differs from art for the art world (which is shown in a gallery, an art-exhibition or in a museum). Not only its public is different but also its meaning and use. Therefore, artists working in and for the public face specific constraints.

However, they also have exciting possibilities. It seems that in the moment public art is very much alive and creative and can fertilize the art for the art world.

The lecture is held by the German professor Dr. Karl Schawelka. He has been teaching history and theory of art at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany. At the moment he is teachin for one semester at the Nkuma University in Uganda.
