Strolling through the city of Dakar, hidden in the half-light, Mabeye Deme offers a dreamy and mysterious vision of the Senegalese capital. A poetic and melancholic stroller, he places himself as a watcher, observing the night life through matter and light. He discreetly suggests the gestures and habits of the city dwellers.
This exhibition will also be an opportunity to discover Mabeye Deme's book on his Wallbeuti series, L'envers du décor in Wolof.
In this series, produced between 2014 and 2018, he highlighted the fragile presence of passers-by. The wear and tear of the tent canvas behind which he photographs tells the story of the passage of time, the ruptures and the distance of the exile from a city that always shuns its present. Mabeye Deme uses the sensitive texture of fabrics as a medium, like the developer of silver film or the pixels of digital.
