Antz in Tokyo is the collaboration of a 2008 prison band, Antz, and Tokyo Street Band (formed in 2009). The idea was born in the Port Vila French prison in 2008 by singer, songwriter and guitarist, Lopez, along with musicians, Jojo, William and Neil. In 2009, the band acquired several more members from the ghettoes of Port Vila and changed the name to Tokyo Street Band. Recently, in 2010, two females were invited into the group, as Tokyo recognised the need to promote the role and participation of women in Vanuatu society.

After performing in Fest'Napuan in October, the band has now decided that it is more appropriate to rename the band to convey the combination of the two original ideas, Antz and Tokyo Street Band, to now be called Antz in Tokyo.

As the band is mostly composed of unemployed or disadvantaged youth, their musical influences and lyrics reflect their personal experiences of hardship, joy and simple living in Vanuatu.

Through original and modern reggae, roots and R&B sounds, Antz in Tokyo speaks directly about pressing social, political and environmental issues of a global nature, advocating for change at a local scale.
