Mzee Anangangola is the oldest Makonde sculptor in Tanzania. He was born in 1933 in Mozambique and came to Tanganyika, now Tanzania in 1960. He learned from his father to carve masks for ceremonies and to carve some simple carvings that were sold to Portuguese. Then he developed this talent and achieved excellence in the Carving style called Shetani (Spirit). His sculptures were exhibited many times and have succeeded well in and outside the borders of Tanzania.
