James DE Lovell, a master musician, Barbados' top rhythm guru, is known for his flair and creativity on the drum kit and percussions. He has performed across the USA, Europe and the Caribbean with artists such as, Nicholas Brancker, Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, Arturo Tappin, Luther Francois, Aja, Lorraine & Thandi Klaasen and more, as well as his own Caribbean fusion band called Engoma.

Very early in his career James was recognized as a reliable and talented session drummer, requiring less notice or rehearsal than many of his contemporaries. He became known first as a Soca drummer with Krosfyah & Square One, then a Reggae drummer with Splash Band, and a Rock and Funk drummer with cover band Kolorblynd.) His notoriety as an innovator increased during the 90's when the drum machine's domination presented a challenge for live drummers to duplicate the complex rhythms of that time. It was during this time that James created his own style of Caribbean drumming called 'Chuck'.
