Mthandazo was born in Bulawayo in 1971. Following in the footsteps of her parents and her grandfather, she trained as a teacher and is now an English teacher at a college in Bulawayo. She is a mother of three and lives in the township of Emganwini. Encouraged by her playwright husband Styx Mhlanga, she produced her first short story for Short Writings from Bulawayo II.
