Rebecca Olul

Rebecca Olul is a ni-Vanuatu woman in her early 30s from the islands of Tanna and Pentecost. She completed a Bachelor of Social and Community Work in 2005 from Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand where she lived and studied for 6 years.  She recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies from the USP Emalus Campus. Rebecca has worked mostly in the field of development with NGOs including Save the Children Australia, Vanuatu Association of Non-Government Organizations and multi-lateral agencies including UN Women and UNICEF. She is a passionate advocate for the rights of children, women and people living with disabilities. Her first real engagement with performance arts was to act in the Vagina Monologues when it debuted in Port Vila. Rebecca has worked together with a group of women in Port Vila to write and perform a play called Ol Woman Naoia: Tri blong hanred plis about the lives and experiences of women in Port Vila. And for the first time, in 2015, her work Untold Stories has been performed and displayed at the occasion of the International Women’s Day in Port-Vila. In her spare time she writes poetry, prose and short stories. Rebecca is interested in supporting ni-Vanuatu women’s literature and hopes to one day be published.
