Wandeka Gayle was born in Jamaica, where she grew up in St. Catherine and also lived for several years in Mandeville.

"Celebrate Jamaica," Gayle's third solo exhibition and first solo show in Jamaica, features acrylic and watercolor paintings of actual rustic scenes depicting every-day Jamaican life. She also launches her book of poetry, "Jamaican Inspiration" which has six pages of her previous paintings which illustrate each poem.

She began painting professionally in May 2005. While Gayle is not formally trained, she did extensive studies on her own for several months before becoming the protégé of Jamaican oil painter, Andy Ballentine, and exhibited in her first group show in December 2005 at the Bloomfield Great House. She has since exhibited with the St. Catherine Art Expo, at the Jamaica Grand, the annual Mandeville Art Fair, Hilton Kingston's Kaleidoscope and Pegasus Gallery.
